Why stamped concrete needs sealing
Stamped concrete gets its look from colour and texture worked into the surface. That surface is exactly what sun, road salt, foot traffic and freeze–thaw cycles wear down. Without a protective coat, the colour fades, the release colour that gives the pattern its depth washes out, and water starts soaking into the slab.
A quality clear sealer does two jobs. It deepens and enriches the colour so the pattern stands out again, and it puts a hard, wear- and stain-resistant coating between your concrete and the weather.
Signs it’s time to reseal
- The colour looks washed out or uneven compared with protected areas
- Water darkens the surface and soaks in instead of beading
- High-traffic paths look duller than the rest of the patio or walkway
- Stains from leaves, oil or fertilizer are hard to lift
- The existing sealer is peeling, patchy or wearing unevenly
How we seal stamped concrete
Every project starts with a look at the surface and the existing sealer, because that decides the preparation and product. We clean the concrete thoroughly, deal with the old coating where needed, and apply a high-solids clear acrylic sealer evenly across the pattern, joints and borders.
Our sealers are non-yellowing and come in matte, semi-gloss, gloss and high-gloss finishes. Most stamped concrete owners love the richer “wet look” of a gloss finish; others prefer something more natural. We’ll talk you through both.
Looking after it afterwards
Sweep regularly, rinse off spills before they set, and be gentle with harsh de-icing chemicals in winter. We’ll give you specific guidance on when you can walk on, furnish and drive on the surface once we plan your project.
